Day 21 – Two in a day and a new toy brings you an additional window on my life!

So I began the day with the Parkrun. I haven’t been there in a while and am still feeling the effects of a marathon followed by quite a few medium distance runs so my expectations weren’t too high. I met a guy at the start who had also done the Chester marathon and he confirmed it wasn’t flat! That was pretty much the last I saw of him as he flew off into the distance. As is customary someone nearly took me down as we joined the towpath. I does trouble me why anybody would pick an awkward simultaneous change of direction and surface as the ideal overtaking spot. Anyway, he became target number one. And yes, with a half mile to go, I passed him, and deliberately on an awkward section with a sharp bend and a change of surface. That was the last I saw of him until the finish line as he came in some way behind me. 19m31s isn’t too shabby considering my general fatigued state!

Next up, a bit of Hankley. I met Paddy as planned and was surprised to find Lawrence there too (he was supposed to be running a marathon in Essex(?) but had overslept) and so there were three of us. We headed off around the course for tomorrow’s halloween run which was pleasantly damp [and so unusually grippy] sand. It bodes well for tomorrow’s competitors. At about 8.5 miles Paddy and Lawrence headed back to the car park and I carried on around the last bit of the route. Except I didn’t. For some reason I dropped left down the ridge a bit too early and ended up taking a rather awkward route to the car park up a really steep climb. And when I say climb, I mean it. Garmin off, I’m actually using my hands to steady myself!

All in, just over 13 for the day which isn’t too bad.

I have a new toy. It’s a Withings Scale. It weighs me, calculates my Fat percentage and BMI and sends the evidence direct to the internet for your pleasure! I haven’t quite cracked the widget for the blog yet, but as soon as I do you’ll be able to berate me for piling on the pounds (or the opposite of course) without even seeing me in the flesh! Hopefully you should soon see a graph in the sidebar of the blog giving you a daily update on the ‘fat factor’ as the challenge progresses. Enjoy!

Andy.
